The interviewer does a good job of trying to keep this upbeat and positive.

To my ears none sounded the best. then the SE because it sounded the most like none. Then the Halo because it only added a bit of weird reflections of its own, and the worst was the eyeball because it has all kinds of weird internal low frequency refflections.

Perhaps it would've been more informative to have done this in an untreated room--you know, like what most of us have, which is why we're looking at filters in the first place. If I had a room like this I wouldn't be watching this video.

Yeah, but it’s all in a treated room. If the room wasn’t treated then you would get a better comparison, but I personally own the Aston halo because I think it is the best reflections shield out there period!! I’ve always felt that the eyeball would muffle the sound

Something I noticed with the Halo: I concur with another reviewer that it has an annoying resonance around 230Hz, somewhere around a Bb. This is much more noticable with deeper voices. With more isolation comes added resonance. Especially pay attention to the sibilant "S" sounds Heather makes in the words "Mercedes" and "Amends" when she uses the Halo. Not so sibilant with the sE. So, with the Halo, you win in one way (more isolation) but lose in another way (230 Hz "honk" and 8-9kHz sibilance). Two big minuses for me. It even amplified her vocals a little, which is not really a good thing. Aston even admits in their literature that the Halo amplifies the sound. The sE seemed the most neutral and uncolored and diffused the sound waves the best IMHO. It did what it was supposed to do and ONLY this. The only instance I would use the Eyeball is when I wanted a vintage ribbon (Coles) kind of sound created artificially without dealing with the limitations and annoyance of a normal ribbon mic's figure-8 polar pattern or fragility. Taking off the Eyeball's pop-filter would make it sound more like a Beyerdynamic m160 ribbon with it's extended top-end. So, not a complete loss for the Eyeball. I see interesting sonic-effect uses for the Eyeball which I could have fun playing with. I also agree with one of Brian's written comments in that the more important sonic treatment is needed not in the back but the FRONT of the microphone! In light of this, if I had two reflection filters (one in front of me and another behind me (if you already have 2 relection filters at your disposal anyway) in this configuration, it would work best. I would buy 2 sE's (used) for the price of one Halo (new). But, a cheaper solution would be to stand in front of an open clothes-filled closet or a tall, crowded bookcase to act as a sound diffuser behind you, while you sing into the sE filter in front of you.

Eyeball sounded really muffled, while the SE reflexion filter space aand Aston Halo were much better to my ears and indistinguishable from each other
